This wonderful group of islands
include Mallorca, Menorca and Cabrera in the North,
and Pitiusas, Ibiza and Formentera to the Southwest.
The Islands enjoy an excellent climate, with
some 300 days of sun per year, wonderful beaches
and have a rich culture. The Balearic Islands
are one of the preferred holiday destinations
in Spain. There is more passenger traffic at the
airport of Palma de Mallorca than at the airport
of any other Spanish city.
Many who have spent holidays on the islands have
chosen to buy property as holiday homes and many
have made the islands their permanent home.
Each island has a
strong personality all of its own:
Mallorca
This elegant island has much to offer a visitor
or potential property owner. The first tourists
here were mainly intellectuals and artists who
were attracted by the beautiful island, then throughout
recent decades Mallorca has flourished as a tourist
destination and 2nd home location.
Mallorca's wonderful climate, beautiful landscapes
and its cosmopolitan ambience make it a privileged
holiday resort, with a cultural offering comparable
to many European capitals.
Cabrera
When you visit Cabrera, which is located face
to face to Mallorca’s southern coast, you
will see a landscape virtually untouched. This
is because Cabrera was declared a nature preserve
in 1991, and since then the Spanish National Institute
controls the access to ensure the conservation
of Nature.
Menorca
Menorca has a very strong personality, and a very
different one to the rest of the Balearic Islands.
Menorca, the "minor" island, as the
Romans named it, has an almost virginal interior
(compared for instance to the "major"
island, Mallorca) and shows interesting remains
of its old history. On the other hand, there are
beaches that are ideal for all those who are looking
for true relaxation.
Ibiza
Often called the White Island for its typical
architecture became a major centre of tourism
during the 1960s, being then famous for its "Hippie-Culture"
and nudist beaches. Today Ibiza has ample to offer
for families and any type of visitor, as well
as those who are attracted by the island's nightlife.
If you leave the beaches behind you to explore
the island's interior, you will find a pure and
simple Mediterranean culture, and remains of a
population that have inhabited Ibiza for thousands
of years.
Pitiusas
This small island, with a surface of only 90 sq
km. is located 11 miles from the southeastern
coast of Ibiza. The sea is visible from practically
any point of the island and there are numerous
great beaches and lonely bays, some of them with
incredible grottos.
