Madeira is a Portuguese
island situated in the north Atlantic Ocean and
although it is part of the African Plate, some
650 km (400 miles) off the coast of Africa, it
belongs politically and culturally to Europe,
some 860 km (535 miles) from the mainland.
It is a popular year-round resort, noted for
its scenic beauty, food and wine, flowers, and
embroidery and other cultural heritage. The friendly
local people know how to enjoy themselves, including
its famous New Year's Eve celebrations that feature
a spectacular fireworks show which is the largest
in the world according to the Guinness World Records.
The Madeira climate offers very mild average temperatures
of 24ºC in the summer and 16ºC in the
winter, and a moderate level of humidity. The
seawater temperature is also very mild, because
of the influence of the warm Gulf current, presenting
averages of 22ºC in the summer and 18º
in the winter.
The property market here is experiencing substantial
capital growth at present due to limited
availability
and demand from overseas purchasers who either
know and love the island or are investors looking
for good rental returns that are possible in Madeira.
