The Grade-II listed building in Bexley Square will undergo an extensive refurbishment to transform it into 122 luxury apartments – and will be rebranded as X1 Town Hall. The property is within the Salford Central scheme’s £650 million regeneration area which is being promoted by Salford City Council and its partner English Cities fund.
Project developer X1 Developments, in partnership with North West property investment company Knight Knox International, has submitted a planning application to Salford City Council and are currently in consultation with the Council on the best way to restore the historic building.
It will retain many of its original features, including one of the court rooms and a cell, which will allow various TV productions, such as Coronation Street, which has previously filmed on-site, to continue capturing dramatic court scenes.
Further listed features which will be retained include the original brick and stone facades, listed gates, the existing feature staircases and mosaic entrance floor.
Beautiful stained glass windows will be restored to their former glory and the court library will be refurbished for the private use of residents.
If planning approval is granted, the three-floor residence will contain luxury facilities including a lounge and gymnasium, room for commercial units on the ground floor, secure bicycle storage, and laundry facilities in the basement.
Martin Copeland, Sales Director at Salford Quays-based Property Company Knight Knox International said: “This unique building is located just off Chapel Street, which is an extremely exciting area for investors in Manchester.
“Only a ten minute walk away from the city centre, the area is experiencing mass regeneration, with over £10 million pounds of investment already having been spent on this huge growth area.
“This refurbishment holds a particular excitement for me as it is such a landmark building. The courtyard in front of the building is an extremely vibrant area with lots of local amenities, making me certain that this will be a fantastic place for young professionals to live, once the refurbishment is complete.”
X1 Town Hall will comprise 93 one-beds, six two-beds and 23 penthouse apartments, with the refurbishment planned to be completed in December 2014.
The apartments are now available to purchase from Knight Knox International at pre-launch prices, starting from £74,950 ranging up to £120,000 depending on the aspect, size and number of bedrooms in the apartment.
